Albert Ruf (1830-1912) was born at Trier, Prussia (according to his family register which was in his handwriting). He was a member the the Prussian Kaiser's bodyguard before emigrating to the USA in 1854, first settling in Dayton OH. There he married Caroline Froeschle of Wuerttemberg in 1857. After several moves in Ohio they finally settled at Williamstown WV and established a tannery about 1869. He died at Williamstown and is buried in the Old Williamstown Cemetery outside of town. The old tannery was located across the road from this cemetery.Wednesday, June 27, 2007
