Caroline Friederike Froeschle Ruf, was born 23 November 1833, Rotenberg (near Stuttgart), Wuerttemberg (Germany), a daughter of Andreas Froeschle and Caroline Friederike Merkle Froeschle. She emigrated to the USA on the ship Hemisphere and arrived in New York on 8 May 1854 at the age of 20. She settled at Dayton OH where she married Albert Ruf on 13 January 1857. After residing in Athens and Meigs County, OH they finally settled in Williamstown WV where they established a tannery and raised their children. She died there 30 June 1903 and was buried in the Old Williamstown Cemetery across the road from their home and tannery.
